Devonport 812 is a 1989 Mitsubishi Type 3 Appliance (Urban Heavy Pump) and was assembled by Lowes Industries of Lower Hutt. It's powered by a 6 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine through a 4 speed automatic transmission. The Darley 3 stage main pump is powered off a PTO and 1400 litres of water is carried on board for initial fire fighting purposes.
Two High Pressure Hose Reels are fitted for immediate use once the pump is in gear and the tank valve opened. There are also four low pressure delivery outlets and a deck monitor available once a water supply is established.
Other gear carried includes Waterway Equipment and Hoses, Ladders, Breathing Apparatus (BA) Sets, a Portable Pump, a Portable Genset and Lighting, First Aid Kit, and a range of Tools and Salvage Equipment. A ground monitor is also on board to ensure enough water power for any type of incident.
Recently we started the transition to the more modern BA sets equipped with telemetry features to match the same equipment in use by the career crew.
