Timeline:
1885: The Devonport Volunteer Fire Brigade is established following a devastating fire that destroyed two cottages in Anne Street.
1887: The first fire shed is built on the corner of Lake Road and Victoria Road.
1901: The brigade acquires its first horse-drawn fire engine.
1913: Fireman Richard Henry Ridings died at a large fire at Clarence Street in Devonport. He collapsed and died of stroke while working the standpipe..
1916: A new fire station is built on the corner of Vauxhall Road and Church Street.
1917: The brigade takes possession of its first motorized fire engine, a Model T Ford.
1921: The Model T Ford is replaced with a larger fire engine known as "Firefly."
1924: Tragedy strikes the brigade when Deputy Superintendent Joe Le Scelles is killed in an accident while responding to a fire.
1930s - 1940s: The brigade continues to grow and modernize, acquiring new equipment and expanding its services.
1948: Harry Follas, who served as Superintendent for 39 years, retires.
1950s - 1990s: The brigade adapts to the changing needs of the community, responding to a wider range of emergencies, including motor vehicle accidents and medical calls.
2000s: The brigade embraces new technology and training methods to enhance its capabilities.
2017: The Devonport Volunteer Fire Brigade becomes part of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ).
